Pop Culture Drives Halloween Sales

EUGENE, Ore. — Halloween is just a few days away, so we took a look at some of this year’s most popular costumes.

It seems pop culture drives Halloween costumes every year, and this year is no different. Miley Cyrus, vampires, and minions are all at the top.

“We got the Miley Cyrus twerking outfit. In a matter of a day or two max we had the onesie teddy bear thing, and it flew off the shelf,” said Spirit Halloween store employee Jim Austin.

And good luck trying to find the fox costume inspired by the viral “What Did the Fox Say” video by Ylvis.

“We sold a lot of fox costumes. The ears and tails–they’re all gone now,” Austin said.

But just when you thought Halloween costumes stopped being scary, the National Retail Federation says year after year the classics like witches and vampires never go out of style.

The most popular costumes for girls this year are Monster High and Disney Princesses. And for the boys? Ninjas and super heroes.
