Public Transit Ridership Up

EUGENE, Ore. — A new national study reveals more people used public transportation in 2012 than in 2011.

Lane Transit District says those numbers translate locally. They say there’s been a slow and steady increase in ridership in the past two years.

“The younger generation, folks who are moving back to the central city and wanting to be able to walk to places and bike to places and not own cars, is really the big trend that we’ve been seeing across the nation,” siad Andy Vobora, LTD Spokesman.

That national study credits the high cost of gas and more public transit options with the boost in ridership.
