public works prepares for stormEUGENE, Ore. — With winds and rain heading this way, public works crews in Eugene said they are working to prevent flooding.

Crews said their main focus is collecting leaves and cleaning up some sand left on the roads after last months snowstorm.

Public works said community members can help prevent localized flooding by making sure storm drains are completely cleared of leaves. “The main cause of localized flooding is when leaves wash down and plug up catch basins and that of course causes localized flooding,” said Eric Jones, Eugene Public Works spokesperson.

Both Eugene and Springfield Public Works said they have crews on standby to clear up any possible storm damage.
