SPRINGFIELD, Ore. — Quick action by a homeowner and fire crews likely prevented a Springfield house from going up in flames.
The homeowner returned from an errand Tuesday evening to find smoke coming out of the house. He called 9-1-1 and crews were on the scene in under two minutes; firefighters extinguished the flames soon after their arrival. Dana Burwell, Batallion Chief at the Springfield Fire Department, says the success in this case is largely due to the fire station’s close proximity to the house.
“We had a manned fire station just a block away,” said Burwell. “That’s what really limited it to a very small fire in the kitchen area.”
The home did suffer some smoke damage, so it may be a while before residents can move back in. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
