EUGENE, Ore. — Mark your calendars–Cirque du Soleil is returning to Eugene with Quidam.
Cirque du Soleil last performed in Eugene in 2011 with Michael Jackson: The Immortal World Tour and Dralion. Come October, Quidam will light up the stage at Matthew Knight Arena.
Quidam is one of the older Cirque du Soleil productions, debuting in 1996. The main character Zoe is a bored young girl who’s ignored by her parents. She creates an imaginary world and the show takes place within her imagination.
Quidam is a little different than other Cirque du Soleil shows.
“There’s always like a fantasy going on, as well as a real world connection, which is neat because everyone watching it in the audience is sitting in the real world, but they’re watching this unfold so they can kind of relate in that respect,” said performer Patrick McGuire.
McGuire is the father character in Quidam and also performs a juggling act. He and Danila, who is the rabbit, stopped by the KEZI 9 News studios Thursday morning. McGuire’s been juggling for more than 20 years. He’s freelanced, worked on cruise ships, and is now with Cirque du Soleil.
Quidam will be performed here at Matthew Knight Arena October 25-28.
