Radio Host Spreads Foster Care Awareness

EUGENE, Ore. — A local radio station is hosting a marathon broadcast Tuesday to spotlight the needs of foster children in our community.

Bill Barrett, the morning show host for KKNU New Country 93.3 FM will be on the air for 12 hours to help raise donations, and recruit volunteers for A Family For Every Child.

His wife, Christy, started the nonprofit in 2006, to help find permanent homes for foster kids. Barrett says he had a variety of guests on the show to help highlight the program.

“We’re about to talk to a woman who was in foster care for 20 years, doesn’t really know the experience of having a mom and a dad yet she has adopted and fostered up to a dozen kids,” Barrett said.

There are 1,100-1,200 children in foster care in Lane County and 12,000 in the state of Oregon.
