Railroad Crossing Being Upgraded

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. — Work started Monday to improve a railroad crossing in Springfield, resulting in a few street closures.

Union Pacific Railroad is upgrading the crossing on 42nd Street at the entrance to International Paper.

As a result, crews shut down part of South 32nd Street Monday, and 42nd will be shut down Tuesday.

“The railroad had previously requested an earlier date, but we, city, requested that they do the construction at this time to coincide with the Springfield School District’s spring break,” said Ben Gibson, construction inspector.

There is a detour in place, but crews suggest you take another route Monday night and Tuesday.
