Repairs Shut Down Royal Avenue

EUGENE, Ore. — Starting Tuesday, July 31, part of Royal Avenue will shut down for a few days.

City of Eugene Public Works crews will close Royal between Fairfield and Waite to do some major repairs.

“It’s actually in such poor condition that we can’t just grind off the top couple inches and repave it, because all that new paving would just start to come apart in the next couple of years. So that’s why we’re going to rebuild this road from the ground up, but using in place recycling which saves time, which saves money, and which saves resources,” said Eric Jones, Public Affairs Manager.

The project is being paid for by a nearly $36 million bond voters passed in 2008. It runs out next year, so the city put a similar measure on November’s ballot.
