Report: Released POW to Return Friday

5-31 bergdahl(CNN) — A U.S. Official is reporting that Army Sergeant Bowe Bergdahl is scheduled to return to the United States early Friday.

Bergdahl has been in a military hospital in Germany since he was released from five years of Taliban captivity nearly two weeks ago.

He is expected to be taken to a military hospital in San Antonio for continued rehabilitation.

Bergdahl was released in exchange for five Taliban figures detained at the U.S. military prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

The swap sparked a controversy over a range of issues — including the decision to release the Taliban detainees and accusations by members of Bergdahl’s unit that he deserted.
