PORTLAND, Ore. — Lane County is hoping to create better trade relationships with China in hopes of stimulating the local economy.
County commissioner Sid Leiken met with a Consul General of China and his wife in Portland in a special reception for community and business leaders. It was a private affair to celebrate the 63rd anniversary of the founding of the Republic of China. Leiken said the event was a chance to form beneficial relationships with the economic giant.
“This is a potential for significant investment into Lane County that will create more jobs. I mean, as you know, Lane County is struggling for revenue and if there are opportunities where other investments are made to create more jobs here at home, I don’t know about you, but I’m all for that,” said Leiken.
Leiken believes Lane County needs to be more involved in events like this to create more opportunities to grow.
