Resident Warns of New Phone Scam

PHONECORVALLIS, Ore. – A resident warns of a new phone scam.

The resident says she was contacted by a man named Cofield. Cofield said he would give the resident $250,000 from the Publishers Clearing House and a brand new Mercedes if she put $250 on a money card.

Cofield said the Mercedes was waiting at the Corvallis Airport in customs. He asked the resident for $200 to get the vehicle out.

Cofield then said the FBI was monitoring the call to prove that it was real. He passed the phone on to a person posing as an FBI agent, who rattled off a bunch of information.

The resident said Cofield contacted her every half hour, before she threatened to call the police.
