Residents Donate Unwanted Materials

5-17 springfield cleanupSPRINGFIELD, Ore. — Springfield residents spent the day cleaning up their yards. Saturday was the annual Springfield spring cleanup.

Volunteers from the city of Springfield, Nextstep, and St. Vincent De Paul collected yard debris, scrap metal, and just about any unwanted household item. While these volunteers lifted and unloaded car after car full of donations, they said it was worth the hard work.

“It’s a way for Springfield employees to give back to the citizens. It’s a free event from 8:00 to 4:00. Citizens can come down and get rid of all of those unwanted materials,” said Erik Baker, event organizer.

People were asked to show proof of residence in order to donate.
