JUNCTION CITY, Ore. — Local water enthusiasts have a brand new marina to take advantage of this summer at Fern Ridge Reservoir.
Brand new steel framed docks are one of many changes that the Richardson Park Marinawent through over the past several months. It’s all being unveiled Friday at their official grand opening.
Organizers worked all morning preparing for the event’s activities.
Lane County Public Works staff say locals donated flowers and plants to dress up the facility that’s been in the works for three years.
Senior Parks Analyst David Stockdale says the marina was in dire need of renovations and had taken a beating in its 30-year run.
“It’s almost like walking on land out there. It’s so much more stable. The dock is a good foot wider. We’ve been able to include ADA slips, which we were not required to do, but we decided we really ought to do that,” Stockdale said.
The marina is already almost booked for the weekend.
Stockdale says it will likely stay packed.
Sanipac is providing free food at the event.
The event lasts until 10:30 p.m. and is open to the public.
Lane County Parks adds that this new marina will provide essential accommodations for avid boaters for many years to come.
