Robbery Surveillance Video Released

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. — The Springfield Police Department has released surveillance video showing a man suspected of robbing a deli early Sunday morning.

An employee of Patty’s Deli says she got a call from a man who claimed that a bomb was planted outside the building. The man allegedly demanded that money be left outside the store, or the bomb would go off. The employee complied with the suspect’s demands.

Police later determined the device to be a fake, but said that the employee did the right thing. “You never know if it’s factual or not,” said Tom Rappe, Springfield Police Sergeant.  “Money or human life — there’s no comparison.”

Police used the surveillance video to narrow down a description of the suspect. He’s described as a white man between 40 and 50 years old with a medium build.

Springfield and Eugene Police are working together to determine if this robbery is related to two similar incidents that happened in Eugene the week before.
