SPRINGFIELD, Ore. — The Royal Caribbean Call Center in Springfield is making room for new workers. It announced Tuesday it’s hiring through the end of the year to ramp up for its busiest time of the year.

With the call center’s capacity hovering around 55 percent, it is looking to hire around 200 more employees. The new hires would bring capacity up to about 65 to 70 percent.

The warm weather has come and gone for the season in Oregon; but for some who are looking to set sail for more heat, the busiest time to do so is coming up.

“We’ve been very busy so it’s going to be a relief getting this extra help,” said Brittany Navarro, Executive Loyalty Agent.

Navarro has worked for the call center for a couple of years and since coming in at an entry level position, has received numerous promotions. She says she can relate to those looking for a job, and this is the perfect opportunity for them.

“I know a lot of people, especially in our community, are looking for jobs, so it’s a great opportunity to help our unemployment,” Navarro said.

Jean-Paul Cunningham, a resolution sales specialist, was able to land his job with the call center three years ago when he was looking for a job.

“I know what it’s like out there to not have a job or to be looking for something different, a better job maybe. So having opportunities like that come into the area is fantastic,” Cunningham said.

Management says the open positions vary.

“We’re looking at mostly permanent positions, but we’re looking at trying out some seasonal staffing. So we have options for applicants who want to come to us,” said Rita Stolze, Director of Trade Support and Services.

Based on previous stats, Stolze says she’s hopeful with the new hires the new year will bring the same success.

“There are lots of great opportunities available up through management as well. So, really there is a wide spectrum for people, and we’ve had about 30 percent of our employees in the last year promoting up to different career progression,” Stolze said.

Stolze says with room for a 1,000 positions, the call center will be working to fill all positions in the next couple of years.
