EUGENE, Ore. — A Salem beauty queen is using her recent title to make a difference in her community.
Brandi Urban, age 17, Miss Oregon Teen Cover Girl, visited KEZI 9 News This Morning on Thursday to talk about Abby’s Closet.
The nonprofit collects prom dresses and gives them to teens who can’t afford them.
Urban says she got two dresses from the organization and now wants to collect 1,000 from girls all over the state. She says having a pretty prom dress helps gives girls extra confidence.
“I believe everyone should feel beautiful in their own skin and you should get that chance to see yourself in that light and be like I am the most beautiful person, and Abby’s Closet really shows that,” Urban said.
Urban has set up a collection for the dresses at Buffalo Exchange at 131 Fifth Avenue in Eugene, but if you’d like to get in touch with her to donate, you can find more info here. You can also call Crystal at 503-910-7953.
She also hopes to get at least 1,000 dresses donated at her one-day event being held at The Oregon Association of Realtors building in Salem on September 14 from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. It’s located at 2110 Mission St. SE, Salem, OR 97302.
Urban will be heading off to Anaheim to compete in the national pageant in November.
