Salem Park’s Humpty Took A Great Fall

humpty-1 SALEM, Ore. (CNN) — “Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall, Humpty Dumpty had a great fall.”  The lines from that famous Mother Goose nursery rhyme came true over the weekend in Salem.

The Humpty Dumpty sculpture at the Enchanted Forest theme park in Salem fell from its perch Saturday when two visitors tried to climb the wall. The visitors were trying to take a picture with the well-known exhibit and Humpty accidentally fell to the ground and shattered.

The cement sculpture was made by the park’s creator, artist Roger Tofte, and had been there since the Enchanted Forest opened in 1971. Now, 84 years old, Tofte said he’ll try and put Humpty Dumpty back together again.

“It’s going to take a few hours to start from scratch again and try and duplicate what I had,” said Tofte. “That’s the problem it’s gonna be to make it like it was before and I’m 84, I hope I still have some creative juices left.”

The two men who knocked the sculpture off the wall have offered to pay for the repairs.
