SPRINGFIELD, Ore. — Labor Day is summer’s last hurrah, but it’s also the last day for shoppers to get their hands on some hot bargains. Although many places are closed during the holiday, a number of stores and malls will be bustling with shoppers.
For many retailers, this is the last day that they can clear their shelves to make room for fall and winter items, and that means big bargains for consumers. Experts say that some of the best discounts are on major appliances, cookware, and back-to-school items. Stores are also marking down summer apparel, grills, and outdoor furniture.
While Labor Day may be a great day for shopping, it’s not such a good time to run other errands. All government offices, public libraries, schools, and superior courts are closed, and the Postal Service won’t deliver mail. LTD buses won’t run during the holiday either.
Some area pools will be open, but operating under different schedules; Amazon Pool will be open from noon to 5 p.m. for lap swimming and 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. for recreational swimming. Echo Hollow Pool is closed from Labor Day until Sept. 29 for annual maintenance. River Road Park and Recreation will not be hosting any classes on Monday.
