EUGENE, Ore. — From “bleu” to blowing up a model volcano, the Santa Clara Summer Camp was all about inspiring young minds.
Thursday kids learned some French for a skit they’re doing later in the summer. Then it was onto putting some finishing touches on their model volcanoes.
After that, they got the chance to experiment with some mild explosives in the form of vinegar and baking soda.
“This is a great opportunity for them to not only increase their awareness of things, but also participate, develop camaraderie and just be active, which we all know is very important,” said Paula Beery, St. Vincent de Paul Development Associate.
“I liked making it and putting the Army men on, and most of all watching it explode,” said camper William Beede.
The summer camp was held thanks to a grant from the Cow Creek Umpqua Indian Foundation.
