Santos, Renfroe Lead Ems Rally

EUGENE, Ore.– For the second straight night Eugene fell behind in the early innings. Lefty starter Erik Schoenrock allowed one hit in the first two innings while striking out 5 Canadians. In the 3rd inning he walked the leadoff man David Harris and Vancouver scored a couple of runs using a double from Melvin Garcia and an RBI single from Justin Atkinson.
ugene had a scoring opportunity in the 4th, but LHP Kyle Anderson was abe to pitch through back to back singles to keep the Ems off the board. Anderson shutout the Ems through five innings and retired the first two men of the 6th before hitting Henry Charles with a fastball. Anderson was pulled from the game with Hunter Renfroe coming to the plate and the Ems right fielder singled off reliever Tim Brechbuehler. With two on and two out, Vancouver went back to the pen, lefty Alonzo Gonzales came in only to serve up a base clearing double to Trae Santos tying the game at 2-2.

In the 7th, RHP Tyler Hale made his Emerald debut by walking the bases loaded before getting Brendon Kalfus to ground out and end the inning. Vladimir De La Cruz made his NWL debut in the 8th inning and was also able to get away unscathed after walking three batters thanks to a strike him throw him out double play.

In the home half of the 8th inning, Ronnie Richardson belted a one-out double to left. After Henry Charles wore his second bean ball of the game, Eugene brought Hunter Renfroe to the plate with the go ahead run in scoring position. Renfroe doubled over Kalfus’ head in left plating both runs. Santos followed with another RBI knock and the Ems lead was 5-2.
Adam Cimber closed out the 9th and picked up his second victory of the year. It was the first time in 19 tries that the Ems overcame a deficit after 5 innings. The same two clubs will play game three of this five-game set Sunday night with first pitch scheduled for 5:05pm.
