UPDATE: As of 10:20 a.m., Fern Ridge Middle School has been cleared and students will be allowed back in shortly to resume their day.

ELMIRA, Ore. —¬†Fern Ridge Middle School was evacuated early Wednesday morning due to a bomb threat. The call came into the Lane County Sheriff’s Office just before 8 a.m.

The staff found a large amount of graffiti on the wall of the middle school early Wednesday morning which included obscene material and a phrase similar to: “We’ve got old dynamite…10 a.m.”

The Lane County Bomb Squad, Lane County Sheriff’s and Homeland Security are on the scene. The building will be checked out and cleared prior to anyone re-entering, school officials say.

Students were never allowed in the school Wednesday and have been moved to the two elementary schools nearby. Officials say 321 students are enrolled at this school.

Fern Ridge School District Superintendent Dennis Friedrich says this has never happened before at this school and he is optimistic that a student will reveal who’s responsible. He hopes to have the graffiti cleaned as soon as possible, but is unsure of the cost.

We will have a live report with the latest information on KEZI 9 News Midday at 11 a.m. Wednesday.
