School, Fire Measures on May Ballot

Elmira Elementary SchoolELMIRA, Ore. — March 20 is the last day for counties to file for measures ahead of the May primary election.

One of the largest measures to hit the May ballot is a $26.7 million school bond to renovate facilities in the Fern Ridge School District 28-J.

Most of the money would help replace most of Elmira Elementary School. The bond will also pay for renovations to Veneta Elementary, Fern Ridge Middle and Elmira High schools.

“A brand new school great for this community going forward, and at every school things that would be taking place won’t just benefit the kids or the staff, but increase community access is a critical part of this whole plan,” said Gary Carpenter, Elmira H.S. Principal.

There’s also a bond measure in Pleasant Hill for school improvements.

In Douglas County, there will be an election to annex all properties within Sutherlin city limits into Douglas County Fire District 2’s area and a measure to reduce the rate the city will levy.

In Linn County, there’s a five-year local option renewal for the Sweet Home School District, a five-year local option tax for the Scio School District, and a local option tax levy for the Hart Family Resource Center in Harrisburg.
