EUGENE, Ore. — A local elementary school is working around the 4J’s budget woes in a very creative way.
First, second and third graders at Adams Elementary hope to win a $10,000 prize from a national American Girl contest for the mural.
The organizing teacher says creating it took more than art. Students had to use their math know-how for size and scaling.
“Even if we don’t win, I’m thinking maybe other people will see this and see that art’s important and say, ‘Hey, I’m going to help the schools out for art,'” said Adams Elementary teacher Jani Selven.
If it wins, the school hopes to use the money to continue with such art projects in the face of dwindling funds.
