Scio Man Arrested After Standoff

SCIO, Ore. — The Linn County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Scio man after a standoff at his mother’s home Wednesday.

Deputies originally responded to a report that 54-year-old Raymond Beasley pointed a gun at his mother. Beasley was not at the mobile home when they arrived, but they returned later after reports Beasley was back and forcing his way inside. When deputies arrived, they say Beasley pointed a laser-sighted rifle at them.

SWAT teams were called in, and when they arrived they reported smoke billowing out of the home.

Deputies say Beasley was pulled from a window and taken to a hospital for smoke inhalation before going to jail. His mother got out of the home safely.
