Scuba Diver Drowns In Clear Lake

Near SANTIAM PASS, Ore. — The Linn County Sheriff’s Office says a scuba diver drowned in Clear Lake near Santiam Pass Sunday.

James Ward, 49, from Forest Grove was diving with two friends. Ward went under the water with his gear and did not come up. Ward’s friends could not find him and it took a while for rescue crews to be notified because of the lack of phone coverage.

Sweet Home rescue crews found Ward’s body 40 feet underwater. Investigators are still trying to figure out what happened.
