The Sea Lion Splash show features four female sea lions and two instructors who have quite a playful relationship.
Tasty fish and the crowd’s laughter and cheers encouraged the sea lions who caught frisbees, waved and caught some air in the pool at their show Thursday.
The show hails from Florida. Their instructor says it takes a lot of hard work and trust to put all of the shows together.
“If they don’t trust you, they’re not going to work with you. So I’ve been with the company almost three years now, and I spend all the time with them. I mean we sleep basically right next door. So in the middle of the night when they wake up I wake up, you know, I go check on them,” said Beccy Hughes, instructor.
As the grand finale the sea lions formed a conga line and danced with their instructors.
Hughes says all the sea lions who they work with are rescues. One of the sea lions in the show, Zoe, was beach stranded and some of the others were rescued from facilities that just couldn’t take care of them.
