Search Scaled Back for Umpqua Man

SUTHERLIN, Ore. — Crews have scaled back their search for an Umpqua man who went missing on a hiking trip last Monday.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office has been looking for 74-year-old Royce Paul Cratty after his wife reported him missing. Cratty’s son dropped him off in the Marvin Hill area of Highway 128W near milepost 16.5, west of Sutherlin to go hiking.

Cratty was last seen Monday, Sept. 24 at about noon by Roseburg Forest Products employee who talked with him. Cratty is 5’8”, 145 lbs, with gray hair and green eyes. He was last seen wearing two blue shirts, blue rigging pants, a red cruiser hat. Investigators say he was carrying a rifle and small daypack.

Searchers have scaled back their search until they receive more information.
