EUGENE, Ore. — The Eugene Mission is teaming up to expand services.

Goodwill is setting up a job training center on site and will open it next week. Other social service agencies are following suit.

Multiple projects are in the works at the Eugene Mission, including a new women’s shelter. They also put in a chicken coop last summer. The chickens are now laying eggs.

Right next door to the coop a modular building. Jack Tripp, Executive Director of the Eugene Mission, says what was once used for conferences is becoming a hub for social services. Donated dividers and tables are ready to be assembled for different agencies, like Veterans Affairs and White Bird Clinic.

The goal of this, from a hub standpoint, is getting all the services in here and have it hopping.

The catalyst for this social service hub is Goodwill Industries. It was the first to set up inside with a carrier training center. This is its fourth center in Lane County. Last year alone the group helped more than 700 people get jobs.

Job training specialists will be able to offer one-on-one assessment. Clients can get help with job leads, resumes and applications and interviewing skills.

Specialists will be ready on Monday, Feb. 4 when the job center officially opens.
