EUGENE, Ore. – The National Weather Service forecasters and KEZI 9 News meteorologist know when conditions are favorable for severe weather to develop.
The NWS will issues Outlooks, Watches and/or Warnings when favorable conditions for severe weather is expected or occurring. KEZI 9 News meteorologists work to get the information to its viewers through on-air graphics and social media. Our goal is to alert viewers so they can take the necessary precautions to stay safe.
Outlooks are issued everyday by NWS forecasters; the outlooks assess the chance for severe weather. A Hazardous Weather Outlook is issued when conditions are favorable during the next few days for severe weather to develop.
A Severe Weather Watch is issued when conditions are favorable for severe weather; it’s usually issued for a large area. The watch is meant to heighten awareness of the possibility of severe weather within the next few hours.
A Severe Weather Warning is issued that severe weather occurring or imminent. Warnings are usually for a single county and are in effect for 30 minutes to one hour.
