EUGENE, Ore. — Police arrested a man after they say he fired at least seven shots outside the Walmart on Green Acres.
Officers responded about 10:00 p.m. Thursday night. They say employees heard several gunshots outside.
When the manager went to see what happened the suspect allegedly fired into the air again and then ran. Police found him hiding a short time later. He still had a gun several magazines and ammo.
Officers were still talking to witnesses after the shooting, but they don’t think anyone inside was ever in danger, including the store manager.
“We asked the employees if they ever felt menaced or in any danger. He didn’t feel that way. He kind of hid because rounds were being fired. At least at the store, he wasn’t pointing the firearm at anyone at all,” said Lt. Bill Solesbee with the Eugene Police Department.
The man faces several charges including unlawful use of a weapon. Walmart briefly went into a self-imposed lockdown. Police say the suspect has a history of mental illness.
