Show Features Art by Prisoners

EUGENE, Ore. — A new art show opens Friday in Eugene featuring art from prisoners.

“Visions from Within” showcases 87 art pieces by former and current prisoners in Oregon. The art is on display at the Eugene Public Library, the Eugene Airport and at DIVA.

Sponsors, Inc., which provides transitional resources to newly released inmates in Lane County, is putting on the show. Organizers say inmates have time on their hands and many turn to art.

“It’s a way for people to express their experience of incarceration. It’s a way for them to heal,” said Trish DeJohn of Sponsors, Inc.

The work is for sale. Portions of the proceeds will go back to Sponsors, Inc. to help other inmates just released.

The art show runs through March 31.

A friend of mine bought a graphite drawing of an angel on the Friday artwalk. It is prison art by Jim R. Taylor. I was wondering if this artist has more work for sale and what can we find out about him and his work? thanks
