Sickness Likely Spread in Cafeteria

OAKLAND, Ore. — The Douglas County Health Department identified norovirus as the sickness that shut down the Oakland School District.

Crews thoroughly cleaned the school last week after a high number of students got sick.

Students were back in class Monday, although a lot of the district’s elementary students stayed home because they were still sick.

The health department says the sickness was likely spread in the cafeteria, which is shared by all three schools, but the source is still unknown.

It’s yet to confirm if the sickness is connected to another outbreak that closed Fir Grove Elementary in Roseburg.
