EUGENE, Ore. — This is the final year to sign up for a national long-term study to fight cancer. The goal is to follow 300,000 participants over the next 25 to 30 years to learn more about cancer and why it’s been seen alarming rates.
The initial sign up requires a questionnaire; then a 30 minute recruitment session at the end of August to get a quick blood draw and waist measurement.
So far, the American Cancer Society has 415 volunteers and is on track to meet the area’s goal of 600.
“What we are really trying to explain their commitment to it and to talk about it. This isn’t something we are doing for ourselves. This is for future generations,” said Pat Cookson, American Cancer Society Spokesperson.
