Simpsons Mural Coming to Springfield

6-1 simpsonsSPRINGFIELD, Ore. — There’s still some debate on whether Springfield, Oregon is the real home of the Simpsons. But soon the Emerald Art Center Gallery will be the backdrop to a new Simpsons mural.

The gallery coordinator said the board unanimously approved painting the Simpsons mural at the gallery on Main Street. She said Simpsons creator Matt Groening said the Springfield in the show was based on Springfield, Oregon, but later backtracked that statement.

But even so, Springfield is hoping to cash in on this claim to fame by turning this blank canvas into art. “We’ve been working very hard on revitalization of Main Street and this really ties into that. It’ll bring more visitors from out of state, out of country even to see the mural and the Simpsons,” said Paula Goodbar, gallery coordinator.

They’re currently looking for a local artist to paint the mural. It’s expected to be complete by September.
