EUGENE, Ore. — Expected snowfall throughout Oregon is welcome news for ski resorts that haven’t been able to open in weeks.
There’s currently about 15 inches of snow at the Hoodoo Ski Resort. Willamette Pass got 6 inches of snow overnight. They need at least two feet of snow to open, but with snowfall expected for the next few days, many skiers and snowboarders are already getting excited.
“I can’t wait to bust out the board or skis or whichever is bigger for the day,” says Svein Berg.
“I’m so excited, I can’t wait, I just wish we had a little bit more waiting for it to be opened,” says Micah Wren.
Hoodoo Ski Resort had to cancel its New Year’s Eve Bash, but it has rescheduled other events. The Back Country Festival will now be on March 23rd, the first weekend of Spring Break. If they’re still not open by Martin Luther King Weekend, the Mascot Birthday event will move to President’s day weekend.
In the meantime, Mt. Bachelor Ski Resort is open. Berg’s Ski Shop has two buses leaving for a day trip on Saturday and there are seats left. Once Hoodoo and Willamette open, there will be day trips for them too.
