COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. — South Lane County Fire and Rescue responded to two large wild land fires Saturday.
South Lane County firefighters responded to a wild land fire off of Martin Creek Road. The fire was quickly contained. They responded to another fire off of London Road, which crews were able to contain by Saturday evening.
The Oregon Department of Forestry and Weyerhaeuser Inc. assisted South Lane County Fire and Rescue with additional fire crews, water tenders and a helicopter.
The combined fires burned around 10 acres. The cause of both fires is still under investigation.
These two fires, plus another 20 wildfires in Lane County, prompted the Lane County Fire Defense Board to close all open burning in the county indefinitely.
