Spring Break Break-In Reports Decrease

EUGENE, Ore. — The Lane County Sheriff’s Office says it looks like there were fewer burglaries this spring break compared to last year.

Spring break is a notorious time for property theft and burglaries after everyone leaves town for vacation.

Deputies are optimistic that people are starting to lock up and secure their valuables. But there might be another reason for the drop in reported burglaries.

“One of the things that we have been noticing, which might be a reason for the decline, is that a lot of folks aren’t calling in and reporting crime the way that they used to. They think that the sheriff’s office can’t or won’t help because of the financial situation that we’re in,” said Sgt. Carrie Carver, Lane County Sheriff’s Office.

Lane County sheriff’s deputies recommend citizens to always report a crime. You never know what stolen property you might be able to get back.
