Springfield Assault Suspect Arrested

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. — Police arrested a man suspected of assaulting a 69-year-old Springfield man in a church parking lot.

Investigators say, on Dec. 5 at about 4:30 p.m., 29-year-old Matthew Allen Kegley, of Springfield, beat up a man in the parking lot of Trinity Baptist Church at 12th and B streets after a church function. Kegley left the scene before police arrived.

The victim was taken to the hospital with head injuries that became life threatening.

Police were able to get information from witnesses, including the man’s wife.

Kegley was arrested on Tuesday and lodged at the Lane County Jail for Assault II.
