Springfield Man Shot by Police Officer

SPFLD-OFFICER-SHOOTING-11SPRINGFIELD, Ore. — A Springfield man is in critical condition after an officer-involved shooting Tuesday night.

Police say they were called to a duplex on C Street near 41st at about 7 p.m. because an armed man was suicidal.

Witnesses say while officers were on their way to the house, the man–Brian Walker–fired a shot into the front lawn and went back inside.

Police say Walker came out the back door a short time later, armed with a handgun. The officer confronted him and then shot the suspect. Officers then provided medical aid until an ambulance arrived.

“The officer involved in this particular case is a 10-year veteran of the Springfield Police Department. He’s been placed on routine paid administrative leave, which is typical in situations like this,” said Chief Tim Doney, Springfield Police Department.

Detectives with the Interagency Deadly Force Investigation team are investigating.
