SPRINGFIELD, Ore. — An elderly woman in Springfield’s Thurston neighborhood is dead, and police say the cause of death is suspicious.
The death investigation is happening in the 6300 block of D Street.
Police say the first call came in at 11:50 a.m. Tuesday. When they arrived, they found an elderly woman dead in the home. They haven’t released her identity, nor described if she had any wounds.
Officers said there was no forced entry, but this is considered a homicide. They were at the scene all day collecting evidence. KEZI 9 News asked Springfield police if people living in the area should be concerned for their safety.
“We are actively searching for that person. that we can surmise. We don’t believe people should be concerned,” said Sgt. David Lewis, Springfield Police Department.
Officers say they’ve had calls out to this house before. However, they wouldn’t describe the nature.
SPD says it doesn’t appear that there was a forced entry into the home.
The man who lives at the house says the woman was renting a unit behind the main house on the street.
