SPRINGFIELD, Ore. — Get ready to celebrate National Night Out.
Once again, the Springfield Police Department is inviting the community to get to know their neighbors and learn how to fight crime.
National Night Out events are happening on Tuesday, Aug. 5 from 6-8 p.m. at Guy Lee, Willamalane, Meadow Park, Tyson Park, Volunteer and Thurston Park.
The event is a chance to learn about safety, crime and drug prevention and Neighborhood Watch. Currently there are between 50-55 active Neighborhood Watch programs in Springfield.
“All that we really want you to do is be the eyes and ears of the police department and to get to know your neighbors and build that rapport,” said Tana Steers, a community service officer with Springfield Police Department.
Police staff will be on hand along with McGruff the Crime Dog and a police K9 team. Goody bags and games will be available for kids.
