EUGENE, Ore. — For the 16th consecutive year, the Springfield Chamber of Commerce worked to raise money for its students. On Thursday night, it held its Annual Tailgate Auction at the Hilton in downtown Eugene.
The event started at 5 p.m. and went till 9 p.m. and included both a silent and live auction. From art to food to tickets to next year’s Country Fair, there was something in it for everyone. A portion of the event proceeds will benefit local students by supportingthe work of the Lane Community College Foundation, Springfield Education Foundation and a new program jointly run by the University of Oregon and Springfield Chamber of Commerce called Campus Bound. The new organization works to get every Springfield 7th grader on the university’s campus and thinking about college early on.
Last year, they raised about $70,000 and this year they are shooting for $80,000.
