Springfield Superintendent Starts Job

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. — The Springfield School District has a new superintendent, and it’s her first week on the job.

Back in May, Springfield Public Schools chose Dr. Hertica Martin to replace longtime Springfield Superintendent Nancy Golden.

Martin says she’s already off to a great start and meeting with district leadership and principals from all of the schools in the district. Next she wants to meet with community members to get to know the parents of the district’s students.

“It’s really important as a new superintendent coming in that I get the lay of the land and understand the culture and the traditions that have been established in this school district,” Dr. Martin said.

Martin has worked in education for more than 30 years and says teaching is her passion.

Martin says she hasn’t set specific goals for the upcoming school year but wants to make sure every school has the necessary tools for kids to succeed.
