SPS Hosts Superintendent Candidate

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. — The Springfield School District is getting closer to finding a new superintendent.

The district’s board spent the day meeting with Dr. Hertica Martin, one of the top candidates to fill the position.

Administrators say they’re anxious to find out who the new superintendent will be, but it could take some time to make a decision.

“They’re really focused on finding someone who can take the work we are doing and have done and continue to raise the bar for student achievement. And that is their only focus. So if it takes an extra week or two, it takes an extra week or two,” said Devon Ashbridge, Springfield School Spokeswoman.

The school district is looking to replace Nancy Golden, who served as superintendent for the past 10 years. Golden plans to retire June 30.
