St. Vincent’s Starts Food Distribution

EUGENE, Ore. — After months of collecting donations, on Thursday St. Vincent de Paul started handing out its food boxes.

The Northwest Christian University Men’s Basketball Team helped out, making sure everyone who came through got all the fixings for a great holiday dinner.

The boxes included a turkey, ham or chicken, fresh bread rolls and fruit, as well as plenty of canned goods.

Recipients were grateful for all the organization does.

“I think it’s absolutely necessary. There’s just some people who can’t get it together for Christmas and this is gonna make Christmas for them,” said food box recipient Sam Frogner.

Organizers expect to hand out 2,300 meals by the end of the drive.

The drive will distribute food on Friday, Dec. 21,  at St. Mark Catholic Church, 1760 Echo Hollow Road, from 9-11:30 a.m.,  St. Mary Catholic Church, 1062 Charnelton, from 2:00-4:15 p.m. and St. Jude Catholic Church, 4330 Willamette, 9:00-10:15 a.m. On Saturday, Dec 22,  food will be distributed at St. Paul Catholic Church, 1201 Satre Street, from 9-11:30 a.m.
