St. Vinnie’s Gives Away School Supplies

EUGENE, Ore. — There was a long Thursday morning outside St. Vincent de Paul’s Lindholm Center. Children waited for a free backpack filled with school supplies.

When St. Vincent de Paul started their annual school supply giveaway 13 years ago, they helped about 200 families. Now they average between 2,000 and 3,000 children with a $17,000 budget.

“My favorite part about this is getting the supplies I need for school and saying thank you,” said 8th grade student Cassie.

“We have about 2,000 backpacks, and we needed about 3,000,” said Carmen Peer, Manager at the Lindholm Center.

Donations are down this year. If you would like to help, you can bring school supplies to any St. Vincent de Paul, Bi-mart, Capella Market or Jerry’s Home Improvement stores.
