EUGENE, Ore. — Coffee giant Starbucks is exploring a new location in northeast Eugene.
The city of Eugene says it plans to meet with project representatives Thursday to discuss a proposed stand alone drive-thru Starbucks on Chad Drive. The city says it has a map of the site which would be about 33,000 square feet. It says the file didn’t include a building footprint.
The proposed location is at 2809 Chad Drive near the Taco Bell. Eugene city records state Starbucks is looking to obtain information on requirements for building permits and land use applications. We spoke with the closest local coffee shop, Vectors Espresso, and the owner didn’t seem too concerned about the new competition.
“We might take a little bit of a hit here maybe 5 or 10 percent,” said Vectors Espresso owner Randy Stark. “That’s ok. We have been a coffee house for 10 years or so. We have a great loyalty and people know what we do here and they know how we are different than some of the huts and they know how we are different than Starbucks. ”
Portland based Holst Architecture confirms it is was selected as the architectural firm for the proposed project.
We contacted Starbucks and it released a written statement to KEZI.
“Starbucks is always looking for great locations to better meet the needs of our customers and we are continually evaluating our store portfolio. At this time, we remain focused on serving the Eugene community at our existing stores and have no store-opening plans to announce.
