Students Ask UO to Spare Tree

London planetreeEUGENE, Ore. — Some trees at the University of Oregon are getting cut within two or three weeks.

The university says about 40 trees will be taken down to make way for the EMU expansion project.

One of those trees is igniting controversy.

Some students are asking the university to spare a London planetree, which they say is one of the largest and oldest of its species in Oregon.

The university confirms the tree in question is set for removal, but the project manager does not believe the tree is as old as suggested.
