EUGENE, Ore. — Students at River Road Elementary are seeing the fruits of their labor as the school year ends.
All year, kids from 18 schools and four districts have been involved in the School Garden Project, which helps students plant and maintain school gardens.
On Friday, all their hard work paid off as they enjoyed a stir fry featuring their own fresh produce.
“We simply introduce them to the vegetable and they come away loving carrots, loving kale, loving peas, and that’s really a key piece for us is that nutrition piece,” said John Moriarty, executive director of the School Garden Project.
They also played games and potted tomato plants to take home.
