SPRINGFIELD, Ore. — Twenty young Springfield students are celebrating.
They’ve been crowned champions in the 20th annual Springfield School District Brain Bowl.
Each of the districts four middle schools sent teams from the sixth, seventh and eighth grades. In a quiz show format, kids were asked questions about math, science, language arts, current events, history and sports.
“The kids love it because it’s an opportunity for them to show what they’ve learned in an exciting, sort of competitive format, but the goal is to really have fun,” sadi Paul Weill, Springfield Curriculum Coordinator.
“It’s a win-lose game. I mean, it just takes a bunch of smart kids,” said Hamlin Middle School seventh grader Brooklyn Reed.
Thurston Middle School won both the sixth and eighth grade competitions. Briggs won the seventh place title.
